Cellular honeycomb shades — Toronto

Energy-smart by design

What are cellular shades?

Cellular shades — also known as honeycomb shades — are made from pleated fabric formed into rows of honeycomb-shaped cells. Those cells trap a pocket of air right at the glass, creating an insulating barrier that keeps warmth in during winter and heat out during summer. It’s the same idea that makes a honeycomb strong and efficient.

That insulating layer is why cellular shades are the most energy-efficient shade we carry — they can lower heating and cooling costs while softening the light. They also fold up into a slim, tidy stack, come in single- or double-cell constructions, and suit everything from standard windows to arches and skylights.

Why cellular

Comfort you can feel

Real energy savings

The honeycomb cells trap air at the glass to insulate your windows — warmer in winter, cooler in summer, and lower energy bills.

Light, your way

Choose sheer, light-filtering, room-darkening, or blackout cells — and a top-down/bottom-up option for light and privacy at once.

Fits tricky windows

Ideal for arches, triangles, and skylights, with cordless or motorized lift that’s safe around children and easy on tall windows.

Clean, tidy look

Slim cells stack up small and tuck away neatly, in single- or double-cell builds and a wide range of soft, modern colours.

Which is right for you

Single cell or double cell?

Both insulate — the difference is how many air pockets sit between you and the glass.

Single cell

Slim & versatile

  • One row of honeycomb cells — a clean, low-profile look
  • Great everyday insulation for most rooms and climates
  • The widest choice of colours, opacities, and cell sizes
  • Stacks up especially small at the top of the window
Double cell

Maximum insulation

  • Two rows of cells trap an extra layer of air for more R-value
  • Best for very cold or very sunny windows and energy-conscious homes
  • Adds a touch more sound dampening, too
  • Ideal pairing with blackout cells in bedrooms and media rooms

Cellular shade questions

What are cellular shades, and are they the same as honeycomb shades?
Yes — cellular shades and honeycomb shades are two names for the same product. The fabric is pleated into rows of honeycomb-shaped cells that trap air at the window. You’ll also hear them called honeycomb blinds, cellular blinds, or pleated shades; they’re all the same idea.
How do honeycomb shades save energy?
Each honeycomb cell holds a pocket of still air against the glass, and that trapped air slows heat from moving in or out — the same way a double-pane window works. In winter it keeps warmth inside; in summer it blocks heat from the sun. That can reduce how hard your heating and cooling system has to work, lowering energy bills.
What’s the difference between single cell and double cell?
Single-cell shades have one row of honeycomb cells — slim, versatile, and available in the widest range of colours. Double-cell shades stack two rows of cells, trapping an extra layer of air for higher insulation and a little more sound dampening. Double cell is worth it for very cold, very sunny, or energy-focused windows.
What light control options are available?
Cellular shades come in sheer, light-filtering, room-darkening, and blackout fabrics, so you can dial in exactly how much light you want. A top-down/bottom-up option lets you lower the shade from the top for daylight and privacy at the same time, and day-night styles combine a light-filtering and blackout cell in one shade.
Can cellular shades fit arched or angled windows?
Yes. Cellular shades are one of the best options for specialty windows — arches, triangles, angled tops, and skylights — because the fabric can be built to fit those shapes. We measure and template each specialty window in person so the shade fits cleanly and operates smoothly.
Are your cellular shades cordless and custom-made?
Every shade is custom-manufactured to your exact window in the GTA, and we offer cordless and motorized Somfy lift for a clean look that meets Canadian child-safety rules. We measure width, height, recess depth, and mount type in person so the shade fits without light gaps and stacks neatly.
