This project took us to Unionville, Markham — a townhouse where five rooms each needed a different answer to the same question: how much light comes in, and how much privacy stays.
We sat down with the family before measuring anything. The brief was balance — light and quiet, room by room. Here is what we specified for each space, and why.
1. The Primary Bedroom: Double-Layer Drapery
The Challenge
A primary bedroom has to work twice over: bright enough to wake up in, dark and private enough to sleep in. Floor-to-ceiling windows make both harder — there is more glass to manage, and nowhere for a treatment to sit discreetly.
The Starlight Solution
We hung double-layer drapery: a sheer inner layer for daytime, and an opaque outer layer cut in a colour matched to the sheer. Because both layers share the same tone, the pair reads as one continuous treatment rather than two competing ones.
Why it works: You get two settings from one set of curtains. The sheer alone softens morning light; drawing the outer layer gives full privacy at night. The colour matching is what keeps the room calm — a contrasting outer layer would have pulled the eye to the window instead of the room.

2. The Living Room: Frosted Sheer Curtains
The Challenge
The main living space takes the most direct sun in the house. The family wanted it to stay bright and open, so anything heavy — or anything that had to be closed to do its job — was out.
The Starlight Solution
A single layer of frosted sheers across the window wall. No second layer, no blind behind.
Why it works: Frosted sheer fabric diffuses direct sun rather than blocking it, so the glare goes but the light stays. And because the treatment works while it is drawn, you keep privacy right through the day without ever shutting the room in.

3. The Spa Bathroom: Light-Filtering Roller Shades
The Challenge
Privacy in a bathroom is not negotiable. But a bathroom that has to be shut into darkness to feel private stops feeling like a spa.
The Starlight Solution
Light-filtering roller shades, fitted inside mount to the window frame.
Why it works: The fabric is opaque to sightlines but not to light. Fully lowered, the shade gives complete seclusion and still carries soft daylight through — so the room stays bright at exactly the moment it is most private.

4. Children’s Room: Dual Roller Blinds
The Challenge
In a child’s room the questions change. Dust, cleaning and safety come before appearance — and whatever goes up has to survive daily handling.
The Starlight Solution
Dual roller blinds, specified cordless for child safety.
Why it works: Roller fabric does not trap dust the way a pleated or slatted treatment does, and it wipes clean in a single pass. The dual-fabric design still gives this room the same range of light control as the rest of the house, so the practicality costs nothing visually.

5. The Entrance: Privacy Frosted Film
The Challenge
Glass front doors are the one place in a house where privacy and welcome pull hardest against each other. A blind or curtain over a door is awkward to operate and rarely sits right.
The Starlight Solution
Privacy frosted film applied directly to the door glass.
Why it works: The film is permanent, so there is nothing to operate and nothing to keep clean. It blocks the view in from the step while still carrying daylight through to the hallway — which is usually the darkest part of the house.

The Starlight Difference
Every panel in this Markham home was measured on site, made in our own workshop, and hung by our own installers. We do not subcontract installation, and we do not substitute materials after the quote is signed. Each project is backed by our service warranty.
If you are planning a project in Markham — Unionville, Cathedraltown, Angus Glen — or anywhere across York Region including Richmond Hill, Vaughan, Newmarket and Aurora, we would be glad to look at your windows with you. You can see more of our local work on our Markham window coverings page.
