This was a full-home installation in North York — a modern residence built around glass, where the same question came up in every room: how do you keep the light and the views without living in a spotlight?
The homeowners wanted the house to stay bright and open. Almost every treatment we specified had to soften light rather than block it — except in the one room where blocking it was the whole point.
Here is what went on each window, and why.
1. The Living Area: Airy Sophistication
The Challenge
The main living space opens onto the backyard through floor-to-ceiling glass doors. All that glass is the best thing about the room and its biggest problem — the light comes in hard enough to cause glare and to be tough on the interior finishes over time.
The Starlight Solution
Ripplefold sheer panels running the full width of the glass, layered with a heavier modern drape.
Why it works: The sheer diffuses the light without cutting the view to the garden, so the room keeps the connection it was designed around. The ripplefold heading earns its place here — the even, repeating waves suit minimalist architecture in a way a traditional pleat would not. The drape layer then adds the warmth and texture that a room of glass and hard lines otherwise goes without.
2. The Kitchen & Dining Centre: Culinary Elegance
The Challenge
The kitchen is the centre of this home — a marble island, warm wood cabinetry and slatted detail. It works as a kitchen in the morning and a dining room at night, so the window treatment had to look right in both.

Why it works: Repeating one fabric across two connected spaces is what makes an open plan read as a single room rather than a series of separate decisions. The soft folds also do something for the hard materials around them — against the sharp lines of the marble and the wood slats, fabric is the only element in the room that moves.
3. The Bedroom: A Peaceful Retreat
The Challenge
A bedroom asks for the opposite of the rest of this house — privacy, and light blocked properly rather than softened. The window is wide and horizontal, and the room is sleek enough that anything bulky at the window would have thrown it off.
The Starlight Solution
Custom blackout drapes that glide across the full width of the opening, in a neutral tone chosen against the room’s grey and navy palette.
Why it works: Blackout only works if the fit does. Most of the light in a bedroom does not come through the fabric — it comes around it, at the sides and over the top. This one was measured to close those gaps, so drawn, the room genuinely goes dark. The neutral tone keeps the drape reading as part of the wall rather than a block of fabric sitting on it.
4. The Spa-Like Bathroom: Privacy with Style
The Challenge
Bathrooms are where fabric usually gets ruled out — steam and damp are hard on most drapery. The alternative is a blind, but a blind would have broken the language running through the rest of the house.
The Starlight Solution
Moisture-resistant sheer panels, so the room could keep the same treatment as the living space instead of switching to a different product.
Why it works: The fabric handles the humidity, which is the part that usually decides this. Sheer gives privacy at the window while daylight still reaches the grey marble — and that is what makes the room feel like a spa rather than a bathroom with a curtain in it.
